Netflix Postpones Talent Show Featuring Liam Payne Following His Tragic Death

A talent show starring Liam Payne has been put on hold while Netflix waits to consult with the singer's family following his tragic passing.
Liam, who was a mentor on the show Building The Band, had finished filming the series in August, just two months before his fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina. The former One Direction member worked alongside fellow mentors Nicole Scherzinger (of Pussycat Dolls fame) and Kelly Rowland (from Destiny’s Child), guiding 50 singers who were competing for a chance to form a new band.
A source close to the production revealed, "It's too soon to make any final decisions, but the show definitely hasn't been cancelled. Filming was wrapped up by the end of the summer, and Netflix plans to meet with Liam's family at the right time to discuss the series and its potential release."

They continued, "Everyone involved in the show is heartbroken. Our thoughts are with Liam's family during this difficult time. There's no rush to release the series – it will be a special tribute to Liam, showcasing him at his best in the months leading up to his passing."
The competition, which was hosted by AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys, culminated in three live shows filmed in Manchester at Aviva Studios. Unlike typical talent competitions, this show focused on the singers' musical chemistry and compatibility, rather than their physical appearance, with contestants kept in isolation before meeting each other face-to-face.
Earlier this year, executive producer Cat Lawson described the show as a "brave and bold undertaking." He explained, "We’ve given the singers control over forming their own band based on chemistry, not looks. The question is, can they build a deeper connection through music?"

After Liam's death, Nicole Scherzinger shared heartfelt tributes on Instagram, posting behind-the-scenes selfies with him and Kelly Rowland. She wrote, "It was such a blessing to work with you recently. We shared the same love for music, and I’ll always treasure the meaningful and joyful conversations we had."
Fans who attended the live shows in Manchester also took to social media to share their memories of Liam. One fan, Lauren, posted a selfie with him and wrote, "Liam was so sweet." Another fan shared, "Meeting Liam was the best thing ever! He held my hand and gave me the most precious smile."
It’s clear that Liam’s fans would love to see the series released, as a way to celebrate his passion for music and the positive impact he had on those around him.
